MOST OF US don’t know what happened on this day 101 years ago on the 3rd of March 1924. Its significance is profound, yet it has been carefully erased from our collective memory. We do not know what we lost that day. We do not realise how many of our current issues stem from what ended then.
101 years. That is how long it has been since we became an orphaned ummah without a shield to protect us.
We lost Allah’s rule on Earth that Day. We lost a way of governance that was established by the Prophet ﷺ himself in Madinah and continued by the khulafah after him. A governance that was a living manifestation of the Qur’an that we flock to listen to and recite in this month of Ramadhan.
We lost a system that took people away from the oppression of man-made laws to the justice of the Divine. We lost the ability to solve humanity’s problems with the rules revealed by the Creator of humankind. We lost what united us and sought to protect us for over 13 centuries.
What have we seen since that dark day? Only chaos and destruction. The fracturing of our ummah into 57 weak and failing pieces. Looting of our wealth. The humiliation of our people. Palestine, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Rohingya, Uighurs, Yemen…
But also a world where justice is absent, where might is right, the wicked and treacherous are in power, and world wars and nuclear bombs have annihilated countless innocents. A world where the rich get richer and the poor poorer, and where hatred of others and social breakdown only increases…
But change is afoot. Hope is not lost.
The ummah is awakening. As is the whole world. The genocide in Palestine has revealed the falsehood of Western ‘Enlightened’ thinking. False narratives are being countered and exposed. Public opinion is shifting.
Through the suffering and resilience of the Muslims, Allah is showing us that there is no other option and no other way than to return to the Islamic way of life. Not Western governments, not their institutions and not their ideologies. It has also shown us the betrayal of our rulers that were planted to stop us from ever returning to that way of life.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “There will be Prophethood for as long as Allah wills it to be, then He will remove it when He wills, then there will be Khilafah on the Prophetic method and it will be for as long as Allah wills, then He will remove it when He wills, then there will be biting Kingship for as long as Allah Wills, then He will remove it when He wills, then there will be oppressive kingship for as long as Allah wills, then he will remove it when He wills, and then there will be Khilafah upon the Prophetic method.” And then he remained silent.
We are in the penultimate stage of this timeline. There is work to be done. To galvanise public opinion for Islam, the only correct system and to win over those who have the power to deliver change. We all have a part to play in this and if Allah wills, victory is near.
