PROPHET NUH (AS) spent 900 years calling his people to the truth. He tried every possible method, every sincere plea, but his people rejected him, mocked him, and remained stubborn in their disbelief. Despite this, he remained steadfast, not wavering in his mission. Truly, he was a man of immense sabr.
When it became clear that his people would not change, Allah ﷻ gave him a command: to build a ship.
Now imagine this: after centuries of ridicule, Nuh (as) begins constructing a huge boat right in the middle of the desert, far from any sea. To his people, this was another opportunity to mock and belittle him. They laughed, ridiculed, and dismissed him as delusional.
But Nuh (as) didn’t try to hide the construction or move it closer to the water to make it seem more acceptable. He didn’t argue or seek validation. His duty was not to understand every detail, it was to hear and obey. He trusted that Allah ﷻ had a plan and that He would make the impossible possible. That ship, as strange as it seemed, was his salvation. And not just his, it could have been the salvation of his people too, had they only believed.
Drawing Strength from the Story of Nuh (as)
Anyone who carries the dawah will find hope and strength in the deep reflection of this story. Like Nuh (as), the dawah carrier will have faced mockery, not for building a ship, but for calling to Islam and especially for advocating the re-establishment of the Khilafah Rashidah.
People have said:
– “It’s just a dream.”
– “That’s not possible in today’s world.”
– “You’re wasting your time.”
– “Get a real job.”
This conviction isn’t born from fantasy, it’s grounded in the promise of Allah ﷻ. He has told us:
Allah has promised those of you who believe and do good that He will certainly make them successors in the land, as He did with those before them; and will surely establish for them their faith which He has chosen for them; and will indeed change their fear into security—(provided that) they worship Me, associating nothing with Me. But whoever disbelieves after this (promise), it is they who will be the rebellious. (an-Nur 55)
Believing in this promise is not a flight of fancy. Just like Nuh (as) building the ark, calling for the Khilafah is an act of obedience to a divine command. It’s about fulfilling our responsibility to make this Deen dominant over all other ways of life, as Allah ﷻ states:
هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُۥ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ ٱلْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلدِّينِ كُلِّهِۦ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ
He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with (true) guidance and the deen of truth, making it prevail over all others, even to the dismay of the polytheists. (at-Tawbah 33)
The Urgency and Relevance of the Khilafah
The establishment of Allah’s rule on earth is not a marginal issue, it is a foundational obligation in Islam, just like prayer, fasting, zakat, or Hajj. When the Prophet ﷺ passed away, his Companions delayed even his burial to appoint a Khalifah. That’s how vital this institution is to the Muslim Ummah.
Today, the Khilafah is the necessary lifeline, our ark in a flood of chaos.
Just look at the state of the Muslim world: widespread suffering, destruction, and vulnerability.
Gaza, Kashmir, Sudan, Yemen, Rohingya, East Turkmenistan, etc. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and Bosnia before it. Who defends the honour, wealth and blood of the Ummah? Where is the shield to protect us?
Our charity seems endless but remains ineffective. But what if we had a system, the Islamic economic system, that actually made poverty history?
We worry about our children’s iman. Every day, we struggle to live by our values. In the West or the East, our environment works against us. Corruption, riba, insecurity, and injustice are rife. What if they lived in a society where Islamic values were the norm, not the exception? What if we lived under a system that helped us obey Allah instead of pushing us toward disobedience?
We are angered by constant insults to our Prophet ﷺ and the burning of the Qur’an. Would not a powerful and principled Islamic leadership act as a deterrent to such offences?
And beyond the Muslim Ummah, what about the world at large? War, oppression, moral decay, environmental damage—what alternative is there? What system is equipped to guide humanity out of darkness and into light? Islam is not just a mercy for Muslims—it is a mercy for all of mankind.
The Ummah seems to have forgotten what the Khilafah represents. But the enemies of Islam haven’t. Netanyahu recently revealed what is at stake when he said: “We will not accept the establishment of any caliphate on the Mediterranean coast. I have said it many times- we will change the face of the Middle East. Now we are making that a reality.”
Holding the Vision, Trusting the Promise
The West’s fear of a Khilafah isn’t baseless. It is recognition that only Islamic political unity poses a real challenge to the status quo.
They know it. They fight it. And that’s why we must restore it.
Just as Nuh (as) kept building his ship with full trust in Allah’s promise, we too need to keep striving for the return of the Khilafah, leaving the outcome to Him ﷻ.
May Allah ﷻ count us among those who work sincerely for His cause and grant us the honour of witnessing His promise fulfilled, bi idhnillah.
